World's Top-Ranked Civil Engineering Journal is Edited at UMD

Professor Mirosław J. Skibniewski, University of Maryland.

Automation in Construction, an international research journal with the world's highest Impact Factor in the Civil Engineering category in the coveted Web of Science database, is edited by a professor in UMD's Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. This monthly peer-reviewed periodical, featuring original research and review articles on the latest advancements in construction-related and allied information technologies, has been published by Elsevier since 1992.  
 
Professor Mirosław J. Skibniewski has been serving as the journal's Editor-in-Chief since 1994.  Skibniewski is currently assisted by a team of 13 associate editors and 40 members of the editorial board based in leading academic and research institutions worldwide.  The journal receives approximately 15,000 original submissions annually and publishes 120 select articles per year.  
 
A member of the UMD faculty since 2005, Skibniewski earned his M.Eng. degree from Warsaw University of Technology and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University. He specializes in automation and IT for economically and environmentally sustainable construction applications, and teaches courses in construction automation and robotics; selection and utilization of construction equipment; and in legal aspects of architecture, engineering and construction.
 
The author/co-author of over 400 technical publications, Skibniewski has held multiple distinguished visiting professorships throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia. His honors include the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award, the ASCE Walter L. Huber Research Prize, and the Richard L. Tucker-Yukio Hasegawa Research Award from the International Association for Automation and Robotics in Construction. In 2008 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Engineering in Poland, and in 2016 as Distinguished Visiting Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering.
