American Society of Civil Engineers
The UMD chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is open to all students and faculty. Among many other events and activities, the chapter is home to UMD's concrete canoe and steel bridge student teams. Members are notified regularly of ASCE student chapter events as well as job, scholarship, and networking opportunities.

Roughly 400 students and faculty at UMD come together to plan, design and build a completely functional 800 square foot house run entirely on solar energy for the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon. From architects to civil engineers to business majors, students from a variety of disciplines contribute their unique skills to the project. The UMD team has placed in the top two every time it has competed in this international competition in the last 10 years.
