American Society of Civil Engineers
The UMD chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is open to all students and faculty. The chapter connects enables 300 civil and environmental engineering students to connect with peers, build relationships with employers, and apply engineering principles in challenging scenarios—including as members of the concrete canoe and steel bridge teams. Roughly 400 students and faculty at the University of Maryland come together to plan, design and build a completely functional 800 square foot house run entirely on solar energy for the Department of Energy's Solar Decathlon. As a completely student-run organization, each team member applies lessons learned in the class room to benefit this project. From architects to civil engineers to business majors, students from a variety of disciplines contribute their unique skills to the project. MD’s Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) student chapter is dedicated to students developing the necessary skills and relationships to become qualified Construction Managers.
