Fellowships are merit-based awards for current graduate students that enable the recipient to focus on graduate study and do not have to be repaid. They differ from assitantships, which carry an obligation to teach classes, to work on a research project, or to perform administrative tasks. 

CEE Fellowships

These fellowships are made possible by generous donors.

To be considered for a CEE fellowship, students must:

  • Meet at least the basic requirements listed. Any preference listed below is not considered a requirement.
  • Inform their advisor of their interest. Faculty nomination is required for consideration. 
  • Submit the Fall 2018 CEE Fellowship Nomination Form

To qualify for this $4,000 fellowship, students must

  • Be a full-time CEE graduate student whose research is within the areas of project management or structures 
  • Demonstrate academic merit and promise

Preference is given to those from Maryland, D.C., and Virginia

To qualify for this $5,000 fellowship, students must: 

  • Be a full-time CEE graduate student whose research is within the areas of project management or structures 
  • Demonstrate academic merit 

Financial need will be considered when selecting this fellowship. 

To qualify for this $3,500 fellowship, students must: 

  • Be a full-time CEE graduate student whose research is within the areas of project management or structures 
  • Demonstrate academic merit and promise

Preference is given to those whom are from Maryland, D.C., and Virginia

To qualify for this $5,000 fellowship, students must: 

  • Be a full-time CEE M.S. student student specializing in structures 
  • Demonstrate academic merit and finanical need

Preference is given to those from University of Jammu, State of Jammu, and Kashmir, India.

To qualify for this $5,000 fellowship, students must: 

  • Be a full-time CEE graduate student
  • Demonstrate merit and interesting in pursuing a career in civil engineering

Preference will be given to those who have served in the military or have family members who have served.  

To qualify for this $2,500 fellowship, students must be a full-time CEE graduate student admitted within the calendar year 2018 specializing in geotechical and pavements. The initial award for one year could be renewed for an additional two years for an M.S. degree or three years for a Ph.D if the student maintains high academic merit. 

Only one student can hold this fellowship in a given year.

This $15,000, one-semester fellowship supports outstanding doctoral students in the final stages of writing their dissertations. CEE may nominate only two students. Department nominees will also automatically be considered for the Lee Thornton Dissertation Fellowship

This $5,000 fellowship supports outstanding "mid-career" doctoral students—those in the period approximately before, during, or after achievement of candidacy—and is intended to enable students to prepare for or complete a key benchmark in their program's requirements. CEE may nominate only two students.

Part of the Graduate School's Summer Research Fellowship Program, this fellowship supports outstanding "mid-career" doctoral students who graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology. CEE may nominate only two students.

This fellowship honors students who are both outstanding scholars and outstanding graduate assistants. Fellows receive a $10,000 stipend.

This award recognizes outstanding contributions from graduate assitants (GAs) to students, faculty, departments, administrative unitis, and hte university as a whole. While the award carries no cash prize, it conveys the honor of being named among the top 2 percent of campus GAs in a given year.
