Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley

Director of the National Transportation Center (NTC@ Maryland), Dr. Lei Zhang and Deputy Director, Mark Franz, were invited to join Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's Opportunity Roundtable Discussion in Annapolis, MD on July 14, 2014. The event, hosted by the Governor and StateStat Program Director Mr. Mark Power, focused on innovative data-based and performance-driven management tools for government agencies and how opportunities for citizens and businesses can be created with more efficient government processes. The StateStat Program for Maryland, modeled after Governor O'Malley's hugely successful CityStat Program while he served as the Mayor of Baltimore, is an innovative multi-agency data sharing and performance tracking tool that has been later adopted and implemented at many other state and local governments across the nation. The Governor's 16 Strategic Goals include several specific objectives related to transportation system efficiency, safety, and sustainability. At the event, NTC@Maryland provided inputs on how the state can better apply performance-based and crowd-sourced approaches to improving transportation system performance and system user awareness.  Other attendees include administrators from various state agencies and leaders of community organizations and interest groups. More information for the StateStat program can be found at http://www.statestat.maryland.gov/.
