Michelle Bensi Joins CEE Faculty
Michelle “Shelby” Bensi has joined the University of Maryland as an assistant professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Bensi’s research focuses on the probabilistic assessment of natural and manmade hazards and infrastructure risk assessment and mitigation, as well as decision support systems and other risk-informed applications.
Prior to joining the department, she worked as an engineer for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for seven years, specializing in assessments of and risk-informed decision-making associated with flooding hazards in the wake of the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi accident. Bensi received a Ph.D. in civil engineering with an emphasis on computational science and engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
