Link Wins Award of Excellence
Engineering News-Record (ENR) today presented its Award of Excellence to Lewis E. Link, Jr., a leading research engineer. Link headed the Interagency Performance Evaluation Taskforce that decoded Hurricane Katrina to improve natural hazard defense.
Faced with an urgent need to understand why flood protection systems failed New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina, the Army Corps of Engineers tapped Link, civil engineering professor at the University of Maryland, to lead the inquest. The result is a landmark analysis of the storm's impact, which is praised for clarity, objectivity, thoroughness and for making critical design-change recommendations immediately available.
The recipient of the Award of Excellence and the Top 25 Newsmakers were selected from a large pool of nominees who were judged by ENR editors to have made the most important contributions to the industry and the public in 2006.
