Baecher Presents Lecture on Geotechnical Systems Risk

University of Maryland (UMD) Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Gregory Baecher delivered a reprise of his 2021 Terzaghi Lecture to the ASCE Geo-Institute GeoCarolinas annual conference at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina on September 12, on the topic of Geotechnical Systems, Risk, and Uncertainty. GeoCarolinas 2022 featured invited technical presentations by leaders in the field of geotechnical engineer as well as a conference reception, exhibits, a Student Poster Session, and an employee recruitment event.

The Carolinas Chapter of the Geo-Institute (GeoCarolinas) was formed to serve the interests of the geo-professional community of North Carolina and South Carolina. Its primary objectives are to organize the GeoCarolinas Conference on an 18-month cycle and support the North Carolina and South Carolina American Society of Civil Engineers Sections in developing geotechnical programs for their conferences. 

Dr. Baecher is Glenn L Martin Institute Professor of Engineering at College Park and a former Chair of the CEE Department. He works principally in risk and reliability of hydropower and water resource infrastructure. He has authored five books and 250+ publications on these topics.
