UMD Project Management Center for Excellence Now Accepting Abstracts for 3rd Annual Symposium

The University of Maryland's Project Management Center for Excellence is now accepting paper and case study submissions for its third annual Project Management Symposium, taking place May 12-13, 2016, at the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Md.

This year, the Baltimore-Washington region's premier project management event gathering experts from industry, government, and academe will proudly support the theme, "Turning Knowledge into Practice." Individuals and organizations are invited to submit abstracts that will resonate with project managers, consulting engineers and architects, construction managers, policy and agency personnel, and education professionals. Example topics include federal project management, sustainability, risk management, public-private partnerships, leadership, disaster management, and Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Because previous UMD's Project Management Symposia have drawn a capacity crowd, interested speakers are strongly encouraged to submit abstracts well in advance of the Dec. 4, 2015 deadline.

"Each year, our Project Management Symposium has grown in terms of the breadth of topics covered as well as the varied backgrounds and experiences our speakers and attendees bring to the table," said Director of the Project Management Center for Excellence John Cable. "Our proximity to the nation's capital, as well as the collaborative expertise of the Project Management Center for Excellence and our strategic partners will allow us to delve deep into critical topics in project management to learn how each area will impact a wide range of industries and professions in 2016 and beyond."

This past June, UMD's Project Management Symposium drew a diverse crowd of professionals from across the country and around the world, as attendees were offered the opportunity to choose from nearly 50 information-packed sessions. Over the past two years, featured speakers have included NASA Chief Knowledge Officer Ed Hoffman, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Karen Durham-Aguilera, International Institute for Learning's Harold Kerzner, and Clark Construction Group Vice President Chip Hastie.

In response to demand, the 2016 Project Management Symposium will feature a variety of case studies, providing attendees opportunities to learn the hows and whys behind project successes and failures from some of the biggest names in industry.

A preliminary agenda complete with a first look at some of next May's featured speakers will be released in the coming weeks. For more information on the 2016 event, please visit the University of Maryland's Project Management Symposium website.
