College Park, Md.—The University of Maryland’s Project Management Center for Excellence and the Silver Spring Chapter of the Project Management Institute announced Regina McElroy of the Federal Highway Administration will discuss “The Value of Considering Risk in Project Management” during the region’s First Annual Project Management Symposium.

Taking place June 9-10, 2014, in the Stamp Student Union on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Md., this two-day event will feature more than 55 session speakers and presenters eager to share their unique insights about emerging topics in the field of project management.

As the first person to serve as Director of the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA’s) Office of Innovative Program Delivery, McElroy played a key role in equipping the transportation community with the capacity to use innovative project delivery tools such as congestion pricing and public-private partnerships. Also included in McElroy’s portfolio is responsibility for the Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (TIFIA) Federal credit assistance program and oversight of major highway projects.

McElroy has been with FHWA since 1987 and has focused throughout her career on bringing new ways of thinking about surface transportation investment to federal, state and local officials. Her presentation is scheduled for Monday, June 9 at 3:10 p.m.

In addition to McElroy’s presentation, symposium attendees will hear from experts from organizations including the Department of Housing & Urban Development, Florida International University, the Georgia Tech Research Institute, the International Security Assistance Force – Afghanistan, the National Guard Bureau and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
